I love a dance banger as much as the next woman experiencing a midlife crisis, but I’m struggling to imagine how one might use it to create Paso drama. This week they’re dancing the Jive to ‘Bandstand Boogie’ by Barry Manilow. It’s quite an old-fashioned Jive tune for Molly, who I expected to use a bouncy pop track to appeal to the yoof, but presumably Carlos knows what he’s doing. Has they brought precision kicks and flicks to Blackpool?

I’ve watched their Afrobeat Couple’s Choice SO many times this week. On close inspection (quite hard when you’re in the studio) it was actually quite untidy in a lot of places, but tens all round for sheer joy.

Now Tony has gone, it’s anyone’s game – with the exception of Hamza, I don’t think there are any nailed-down finalists this year. Everyone has had the odd bad week, and I can’t confidently say that any of our celebs are streets ahead of the rest in either ability or popularity. How exciting is that? Gird your loins for superfluous backing dancers, tens being tossed around like a seagull in a bag of chips, and our Strictly pro dances getting all nostalgic for that time they won their first competition in the legendary Tower Ballroom. It’s our first time back in Blackpool since 2019, when Michelle and Giovanni Vogued their way out of the competition for good. Whose time is up this week? Grab seaside snacks and get ready for some joyful viewing – incidentally, in 2018 I wrote “Think of it as a warm blanket of predictability and comfort while the country burns around us”. Four years on and absolutely nothing has changed, so I suppose that’s one reassuring constant in our lives right now.

Craig voulait que Kym ait pu sortir davantage et que son épaule soit tombée en attente, mais sinon, elle a adoré. Motsi aimait le contrôle et l’énergie – Kym a apporté le feu et la lumière. Shirley a remarqué que le cadre de Kym était trop en avant et Anton a adoré l’atmosphère – Kym est brillante.
OH, c’est une version DRAMATIQUE de Rihanna/Calvin Harris avec de gros vieux tambours. Cela a tellement plus de sens. Kym est fabuleuse dans les morceaux solo, mais les sections en attente ont trop de lacunes et sa ligne du haut est un peu molle. Tout me semblait un peu frénétique – beaucoup de balancement à travers des tas de partenaires, ça ressemble à de la danse country.

Cette semaine, ils dansent le Paso Doble sur une sorte de mashup Rihanna/Calvin Harris. J’aime un banger de danse autant que la prochaine femme qui traverse une crise de la quarantaine, mais j’ai du mal à imaginer comment on pourrait l’utiliser pour créer un drame Paso. Nous avons trouvé l’amour (et la ligne espagnole) dans un endroit sans espoir ? En fait ça marche.

Scores : 8,9,9,9 – un total de 35 pour Molly et Carlos.
Anton a pensé que c’était formidable – propre et magnifiquement chronométré, mais Craig a pensé qu’il manquait un peu de rétraction et devait être plus léger (MERCI). Motsi aimait à quel point c’était calme et soigné, et Shirley pensait que Molly suivait très bien Carlos, d’autant plus qu’il était le roi de Jive.
Le timing de Molly est fabuleux comme toujours, mais tout semble un peu compliqué et maladroit dans les transitions, et ses rétractations pourraient avoir plus de punch. Très amusant, mais je ne pense pas que c’était sa meilleure danse.
Ensuite, c’est Molly et Carlos !
Cette semaine, ils dansent le Jive sur “Bandstand Boogie” de Barry Manilow. C’est un morceau de Jive assez démodé pour Molly, dont je m’attendais à utiliser un morceau pop rebondissant pour plaire au yoof, mais on peut supposer que Carlos sait ce qu’il fait. A-t-il apporté des coups de pied et des films de précision à Blackpool?

Scores : 9,9,10,10 – un total de 38 pour Hamza et Jowita. Eh bien, la barre est haute pour la soirée.
Shirley pensait que Hamza brillait plus que toutes les perles, les bracelets et les babioles du monde. Elle aimait aussi le jeu de jambes et les détails. Anton a trouvé ça magnifique, et c’est la danse qu’il aurait adoré faire. Craig n’aimait pas la section solo de jazz, mais tout le reste était spectaculaire. Motsi aimait le contrôle de Hamza.
Un autre 10/10 pour les cheveux de Motsi. Cela semble incroyable.
Ooh, des danseurs d’accompagnement superflus avec des plumes géantes. J’ai l’impression d’avoir besoin d’une paire d’yeux supplémentaire pour tout cela – c’est déjà assez difficile de faire un œil sur la télé et un sur mon ordinateur portable, sans tous les gubbins supplémentaires de Blackpool.
Comme prévu, c’est toutes sortes de choses fabuleuses et élégantes, et il n’y a vraiment aucun style que Hamza ne puisse pas danser. Jowita ressemble à un cygne gelé et les ascenseurs sont incroyables. J’ai adoré ça.

J’ai regardé leur Afrobeat Couple’s Choice TELLEMENT de fois cette semaine. En y regardant de plus près (assez difficile quand vous êtes en studio), c’était en fait assez désordonné dans de nombreux endroits, mais des dizaines tout autour pour la joie pure.
