“Max le tueur à gages : quand l’humour pince-sans-rire s’invite dans le meurtre à gages”

Max (Damiens), who is in his fifties, is a hitman. Discreet and professional, he recently developed a handicap: he faints at the sight of a drop of blood. Aware that he must now retire or switch careers, he has one last task to accomplish: to eliminate his bosses. In his difficult quest, he will cross paths with his new neighbors, Karim (William Lebghil) and Stéphanie (Laura Felpin), a young and honest couple.

In a role that is not very demonstrative, almost taciturn, Damiens quickly finds his bearings and the chemistry with his young partners is paying off. Cécilia Rouaud practices an enjoyable deadpan humor and often signs witty dialogues. The only downside is her somewhat dull direction: this original screenplay deserved a more inventive staging.

But in a landscape of depressing “franchouillard” comedies, the film stands out. Let’s not shun our pleasure then.
