Neuchâtel Xamax attacks the final straight. The Challenge League football club resumes the championship in a week against Schaffhouse. Seven days before the big plunge, the Maladière club organized a press conference to provide an update on the main lines of the upcoming season and the current state of its squad.
Team to refine
Currently, the “red and black” club has welcomed Sead Hajrovic, Sébastien Moulin, Eris Abedini, Lucas Marin, and Angelo Campos. “We still need a striker, a left central defender, and a left-back,” said the team’s coach, Uli Forte. “But I want specialists, not utility players who can’t hold their positions,” insists the coach. A delicate mission for the sports director, Christophe Moulin, who emphasizes that the recruitment process is complex. “On June 6, we didn’t know in which league we would be playing this year, and on July 21, we start a new championship. It’s not an easy period.”
“Almost” intact support
After a nightmarish 2022/2023 season, the question was whether the club’s season ticket holders and sponsors would be present for this new campaign. “I was afraid of a drop in the number of subscriptions,” admits Xamax’s general manager, Tiziano Sorrenti. “But in the end, the campaign has been rather good. I don’t know if we will reach the 2,500 subscribers from last season, but we are getting closer,” he says.
Two tests before the grand debut
Uli Forte and his men will have two more opportunities to refine their preparation before the start of the championship. The “red and black” will host FC La Chaux-de-Fonds on Friday night and face FC Bulle on Tuesday, both in friendly matches. /gjo
