Tesla’s desire to establish itself in India dates back several years. This project never resulted in the creation of a factory, but that could change in the near future.
According to the Times of India, Tesla is currently in discussions with the Indian government to establish a Gigafactory in the country. This factory would be capable of producing up to 500,000 cars per year.
But most importantly, the main goal of this factory would also be to manufacture an entry-level Tesla. One could think of the famous Model 2, announced by Elon Musk nearly 3 years ago during a conference.
According to the billionaire, it was supposed to cost $25,000, and that is still the objective of the brand. Indeed, according to the Times of India, it is at this price that a smaller model produced in India would be released.
Tesla is confident that this factory could become an export hub for cars in this part of the world. And above all, it would allow the brand to sell its cars in the country, something that has always been denied by the government because Tesla had not established itself there.
