Microsoft travaillerait sur le successeur du Surface Laptop Studio pour une sortie prévue avant l’hiver

Microsoft is currently working on the successor to its Surface Laptop Studio, released in 2022 in France. It could be announced around the back-to-school period and released before winter.

The Surface Laptop Studio 2 will therefore take over this year and is expected to offer, as we had already seen a few months ago, significantly higher performance than its predecessor. The website Windows Central cites some internal sources that point to an announcement within a few weeks.

A computer planned for this fall?

With the code name “Ersa,” this brand new two-in-one laptop from Microsoft, designed for artists and professionals who require extensive resources on their machine, could be announced as early as September or October. It is a time when the giant usually unveils its new Surface products. The release could also coincide with the deployment of Windows 11 version 23H2. According to the source mentioned by Windows Central, the laptop could be released around October or November.

It is also highly likely that Microsoft will follow the same strategy as it did with the original Surface Laptop Studio. Namely, an initial release in the United States and Canada, followed by a release in a wider selection of regions, including France, a few months later, possibly at the beginning of 2024. This is what happened with the previous computer. There is little information available about the prices, but it appears that Microsoft will skip the Intel Core i5 processor in favor of an i7 for each configuration, which could increase the base price by a few tens or even hundreds of dollars.

A much more powerful but insufficient configuration?

We don’t really have any new information about what the Surface Laptop Studio 2 will include compared to what we learned last February. The laptop is said to be equipped with a 13th generation Intel processor, either i7-13700H or i7-13800H in its high-end version. It would be accompanied by options of 16, 32, and even 64 GB of RAM, making it the largest available memory capacity on such a computer, as the Surface Laptop Studio only has a maximum of 32 GB. Finally, instead of an RTX 3050 graphics card (already outdated for the period when the computer is released), the Surface Laptop Studio 2 would be equipped with an RTX 4060 in its maximum configuration.

Once again, this choice raises doubts. Since the computer is intended for creative professionals, it seems that such a graphics card may not be sufficient for the most demanding tasks. However, the computer could rely on the capabilities of Windows Studio Effects and the company’s AI to compensate for this lack of power.
