Novak Djokovic revient aux Etats-Unis après une interdiction de jouer et remporte une victoire épique à Cincinnati

Novak Djokovic wonders, “What is my wife doing with this guy?”

Novak Djokovic returned to the United States after being banned from playing last season with a big victory, in an epic match in Cincinnati against Carlos Alcaraz. Before winning another ATP Masters 1000, the Serbian champion was the protagonist of a funny promotional video about the Western & Southern Open.

Djokovic talked about some funny photos from the past, joking about his wife Jelena, but also about his doubles partner Andy Murray in 2006. Regarding the first photo, Novak Djokovic revealed that he and his wife Jelena were still in the early stages of their relationship: “Okay.”

“Okay. Who is this beautiful lady with this guy? What is she doing with him? It was a photo shoot and it was very enjoyable. I didn’t look too bad. It was still the early years of our relationship.

“Nole also mentioned the 2006 Australian Open, the only occasion when he played doubles with his friend and rival Andy Murray: “Oh, the famous Australian Open doubles partner, Andy Murray and myself.”

That’s the only doubles we played together in professional tennis. So, it was nice. I hope we will have the opportunity to play again. Andy and I have known each other for a very long time.

I think we were 11 or 12 years old when we first played against each other, and there is only a week’s difference in age between us, so yes, we followed the same trajectory towards professional tennis, almost in parallel to each other.

Nole on his victory against Carlitos, in Cincinnati

Nole analyzed the match, saying: “We had a crazy match. I don’t think I’ve played many matches like this in my life. I can maybe compare it to the final against Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open in 2012.

Obviously, we’re talking about a best-of-three-set match, but it lasted almost four hours. It’s one of the most mentally, emotionally, and physically demanding matches I’ve ever played in my career.

I started better, but then I struggled physically on the court. Alcaraz was leading by a set and a break, but he had a bad service game and I thought I had a chance. In the third set, I had a lot of opportunities; Carlos was amazing on the second match point.

Alcaraz doesn’t surprise me anymore. The way he won important games is impressive, especially at his age.”
