On November 25, he will be at the Polaris festival in Switzerland, on December 9 at Koko in London for a disco set, and on December 17 at Sucre in Lyon. He announced it, notably on Instagram on Wednesday, October 25.
“I’m much better now. I took a six month break, I had cancer, in the throat, there’s nothing to hide, I fought all summer, it didn’t get me,” the former resident DJ of the Haçienda in Manchester and the Rex Club in Paris confided to the AFP on the phone.
Hosting a show on Fip
Before that, Laurent Garnier, 57 years old, will turn up the volume on November 9 on Fip, hosting “Comme à la radio,” “4 hours live, 4 hours of conversation in music, to travel through an artist’s life,” as presented by the French radio station.
Before the illness hit, Laurent Garnier had already decided to “continue differently. I won’t be doing 15 weekends in a row anymore. The idea is to do less and focus on quality, spend at least two days in each place, take the train instead of the plane.”
“For years, I have been turning down a lot of things, not taking gigs just for the money but for places where I want to play, where I feel at home.”
“An algorithm that can’t do everything”
While his composer hat is currently on the coat rack, Garnier continues to oversee record releases on the Cod3 QR label, co-managed with Scan X, another DJ-producer.
With his new online radio station, [Deep] Search, this music enthusiast is still a “trailblazer” in the midst of all these “platforms run by an algorithm that can’t do everything.”
During his recovery, artificial intelligence made headlines in the music industry. “I remain profoundly human, machines can do many things but I doubt they can be as funky as James Brown.”
