Following the insults, Textor reconsidered
Indeed, if there was a crisis at Plongeon, things weren’t much better at OM. After Laurent Blanc’s departure, John Textor had approved Gennaro Gattuso’s profile to save his new club. But a wave of insults towards the Italian on Twitter, formerly known as X, made the Lyon owner change his mind.

“When Laurent Blanc was fired in early September, Gattuso was the top favorite. Textor wanted him, but there was internal resistance. However, what really tipped the scale was the wave of negative comments on Twitter,” a source close to OM revealed to La Provence. With hindsight, Gennaro Gattuso must be relieved to have avoided getting involved in the Lyon mess.
