Laurels for Roman Bürki: the 32-year-old Bernese was named goalkeeper of the year in Major League Soccer (MLS). He plays for St. Louis City SC.
In his first season in the MLS after a long career in the Bundesliga, Bürki was one of the three goalkeepers to have made more than 100 saves (123) during the regular season. And among this trio, he has the best save percentage, namely 74.55%
This award comes three days after St. Louis’ surprising elimination in the first round of the playoffs. The club, which had finished on top of the Western Conference, was knocked out by Kansas City with a total score of 6-2.
