Strong tensions in Vendée hospital services

In a statement released on Wednesday, January 24, the hospitals in the department alert on the strong internal tensions currently being experienced in the emergency, medical, and surgical services of Vendée hospitals, especially due to the flu epidemic and the lack of beds: “the patient care delays are particularly important, as there is not enough availability of beds in the downstream sectors (…). The structural difficulties in the emergency departments are exacerbated by the seasonal epidemic context (note that the peak of the flu epidemic has not yet been reached) and by a very high number of elderly people requiring hospitalization.”

Yesterday, the management of the departmental hospital center initiated a series of actions as part of the “Hospital in tension plan” with the support of the medical and care communities.

“Work with usual external partners is also reinforced to facilitate transfers and patient discharge. In this crisis context, temporary accommodations in EHPAD, including outside the geographical area within the territory, may be considered in conjunction with families.”

The Vendée departmental hospital center reminds the population that before spontaneously going to the emergency department, it is necessary to call 116 117 for general medical care.

In case of absence or unavailability of the treating physician, one can also consult the pharmacist, who will provide advice, or contact a nearby health center or clinic to make an appointment.

For life-threatening emergencies, call 15.
