Les Terriers de Boston University se qualifient pour la finale du Beanpot avec une victoire sur Boston College

BOSTON, Mass. – Macklin Celebrini scored two goals in the first 6:10 of the game, propelling the Boston University Terriers to a spot in the Beanpot final with a 4-3 victory over their perennial rivals, the Boston College Eagles.

Youngest player to play in American college ranks, Celebrini scored his 20th and 21st goals of the season with two superb shots.

The 17-year-old center’s cannon shot passed the Canadian prospect goalkeeper Jacob Fowler – all on a pass from Canadiens prospect defenseman Lane Hutson – making it 2-0 in favor of the Terriers.

The top favorite to be selected first overall in the upcoming NHL draft now has six multi-goal performances to his name.

Gabriel Perreault tightened the score for Boston College in the middle period, but a third Canadiens prospect, Luke Tuch, added to the scoreline to restore BU’s two-goal lead.

A defensive turnover in the Eagles’ zone then paved the way for Ryan Greene to extend the Terriers’ lead to three goals early in the final period.

However, Gentry Shamburger gave life to the Boston College fans at TD Garden with his first goal of the season.

Shamburger’s teammates followed suit, and Perreault scored again less than three minutes later.

The Eagles invaded the Terriers’ territory during the final five minutes of the game, but goaltender Mathieu Caron shut the door, making 35 saves. Fowler faced 30 shots.

The youngest son of Yanic Perreault, a first-round pick of the New York Rangers last June, now has 12 goals and 29 assists in 25 games in his first NCAA campaign.

Northeastern in familiar territory

In the other semifinal, Gunnarwolfe Fontaine played the hero after 32 seconds of overtime, scoring the winning goal for the Northeastern University Huskies, who defeated the Harvard Crimson 3-2.

Wolfe, a Nashville Predators prospect, received a pass from Justin Hryckowian before shooting into the net to settle the match.

This will be the sixth consecutive time that the Huskies have reached the final. They have won four of the last five editions and have an outstanding record of 10-1 in their last ten outings at the Beanpot.

Fontaine now has four goals in the traditional competition involving four universities from the Boston area.

The Beanpot final will be played next Monday at 8 p.m., also at TD Garden.
