Apple travaillerait sur une nouvelle génération de son traqueur d’objets : l’AirTag 2 prévu pour 2024.

Apple is said to be working on a new generation of its object tracker.

According to a recent tweet by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on a new generation of its object tracker, namely the AirTag. Indeed, Apple could announce AirTag 2 sometime in 2024. The presentation of AirTag 1 took place in April 2021. This would create a gap of three and a half years between the two announcements.

In theory, the new tracker should integrate the U2 chip, which would improve location tracking accuracy. A significant gain for tracking accuracy.

A new AirTag to facilitate tracking

The current AirTag uses a U1 chip for precise location tracking and searching. However, the U1 chip is not available on all Apple devices, which can limit tracking accuracy. The U2 chip, on the other hand, is available on all Apple devices equipped with an A12 Bionic chip or newer. This means that AirTag 2 will be more accurate, regardless of the device used to track it.

In addition to the U2 chip, AirTag 2 could feature a new design and increased durability. It could also be compatible with new features such as indoor location or real-time location.

At this stage, Kuo does not mention the price of the device or the additional uses of the future AirTag. He does, however, affirm that this new tracker is currently being designed. At present, Apple has not yet communicated anything on this subject.
