Christian Horner, the historic boss of the Red Bull Formula 1 team who was targeted by an internal investigation for “inappropriate behavior,” has been cleared, the Austrian company announced before the first Grand Prix of the season in Bahrain this weekend.
“The complaint has been dismissed,” said Red Bull’s parent company in a statement, “convinced that the investigation was fair, rigorous, and impartial.”
Horner, 50, has been in turmoil since an internal investigation targeting him was announced in early February.
The British man, married to former Spice Girls member Geri Halliwell, was internally suspected of “inappropriate behavior” – towards an employee according to the press – allegations that he has always denied.
Very few details have emerged since the start of the procedure by the parent company in Austria, except that the individual was questioned by an external lawyer to the company.
For his first statement in mid-February, during the presentation of the team’s new car, Horner, who has never stepped back, assured that he would “comply” and “fully cooperate” with the investigation.
The Englishman has been the director of Red Bull since the team’s debut in F1 in 2005. Under his leadership, the team has won seven Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championships, four for German Sebastian Vettel (from 2010 to 2013) and three for Dutch Max Verstappen (from 2021 to 2023), as well as six World Constructors’ Championships (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2022 and 2023).
The 2024 season starts this weekend in Bahrain. The Austrian team, which dominated the competition last year by winning 21 out of 22 Grand Prix races of the season, is already announced as the favorite for both the constructors’ and drivers’ titles, with its star driver Max Verstappen.
