Death sentence… Why does this message appear?

Although the exact reason for this message is still unclear, it may appear following an action you have taken against the Renegades of the Wheelhouse.

The Wheelhouse, if you don’t already know, is part of the smuggling network of Skull and Bones in connection with Yanita Nara from the Mute Bridge of Saint Anne. Transporting White Skull Rum or attacking one of their merchant ships seems to be enough to provoke their anger towards you.

For our part, we accidentally collided with one of their ships. However, we fled to another objective, without necessarily taking the time to eliminate them. And when the ship stopped following us, the message “Death Sentence Expired” appeared. So it is possible that fleeing or stealing one of the Wheelhouse’s boats is one of the reasons that explains the appearance of this message.

If you have fled from one of the Wheelhouse ships chasing you, or committed a raid against them, this message is likely to appear many times on your screen. Whereas logically, it should only appear once.

However, a bug seems to generate this message indefinitely even though the event is over. It then pollutes the screen and prevents immersion. To remove this incessant message, there are different solutions available to you.

• Completely exit Skull and Bones and restart the game: although this may be the most futile solution, it can stop certain display bugs, particularly the “Death Sentence Expired” message.
• Talk to an NPC: go buy resources or engage in conversation with an NPC can help remove this message
• Take a new contract: new contracts trigger a message on your screen. This one thus has a chance of canceling that of “Death Sentence Expired”
• Press your ‘Space’ key repeatedly (PC): this trick is amusing, but many player testimonials on PC seem to affirm that it works. So, when the message appears on your screen, hammer your ‘Space’ key to hope to remove it permanently
