Nicole Lapointe, one of the puppeteers behind Passe-Partoutand previously Nic et Pic, died on April 27th at the age of 89 in Outremont.
Nicole Lapointe and her longtime colleague, Pierre Régimbald, were originally trained in the troupe of Micheline Legendre, who was also a pioneer of puppetry in Quebec. They first brought some of their puppets to the small screen with the youth series Fanfreluche, which aired between 1968 and 1971 on Radio-Canada television.
Nicole Lapointe and Pierre Régimbald later gave life — and their names — to Nic et Pic, two mice traveling the world in a hot air balloon.
However, it was as the co-creator of the puppets in Passe-Partoutthat Nicole Lapointe truly became known. “An exceptional artist, she leaves the children and adults of Quebec with the memory of her magnificent creations and their fantastic world. Her puppets, which she called her children, remain in our childhood minds as precious and real characters,” reads her obituary.
Nicole Lapointe’s funeral will be held at Saint-Viateur Church in Outremont on Friday, August 18th.
