Gérald de Palmas, the author and performer of “Sur la route”, “Regarde-moi bien en face” or “J’en rêve encore”, announces that he is ending his career, one month before the release of his eighth album.
Gérald de Palmas announced the sad news to our colleagues at Le Parisien. “I am forced to stop my career,” he says, due to “a recurring voice problem”. For recording an album, it is not a problem because I can choose the time, but for promotion and concerts, it is quite unbearable. I don’t prevent myself from working for others or possibly recording something from time to time, but I cannot continue a career with this recurring voice problem. This uncertainty is quite destabilizing,” Gérald de Palmas confides.
“I really had a great career”
At 55 years old, the author and performer of “Sur la route”, “Regarde-moi bien en face” or “J’en rêve encore” tries to “digest this fresh and still violent decision,” he reacts to our colleagues. “I have been struggling with my voice for years, and it is its inconsistency that undermines me. It can disappear at any moment, from one day to the next. It becomes unpredictable and I find myself with only 40% of my abilities. Psychologically, this uncertainty is really unbearable. I tried to work, to find solutions, I did a lot of training, but it remains random. We have to stop the expenses. The album will be released as planned by Universal (“Sous un soleil de plomb”, NDLR.), but I will not do any promotion. And I will no longer do concerts or tours.”
“Life goes on, we will recover,” he concludes. “I really had a great career and I am happy to leave with an album that I am very proud of. I wanted to thank the people who have followed me for over thirty years and who have allowed me to do my job in excellent conditions.”
