Thursday, Dnata offered a 1.7% salary increase to the staff before proposing 3% on Friday, the latter claims. According to an anonymous online survey conducted by the SSP, 93.8% of employees reject the management’s proposal and 87.2% are ready to strike. The union is demanding a 5% salary increase and the implementation of several bonuses related to the difficulty of the work, says Jamshid Pouranpir.
Some 60,000 passengers expected at GVA
A strike notice was voted on Monday by half of the employees as the airport is set to welcome up to 60,000 passengers per day at the end of the year. Supported by the SSP union, employees were opposed to the change in contribution percentages for professional provident fund imposed on them by the management. They feared significant drops in income at their retirement, up to 120,000 Swiss francs, according to their calculations.
Dnata employs around 600 people in Geneva. Its employees handle several tasks such as ticket issuance, passenger and baggage handling in planes, air freight, and aircraft de-icing. The company operates notably on behalf of airlines such as Emirates, Ethiopian Airlines, Air France, KLM, British Airways, Iberia, Air Lingus, and partly Easyjet.
