Hausse inquiétante des cas de chlamydiose et de gonorrhée en Suisse

For gonorrhea, the number of cases has tripled to reach 5176 people. Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection in Switzerland. It is mostly diagnosed in women between 15 and 24 years old (source: FOPH). Gonorrhea, on the other hand, mainly affects men who have sex with men, between 25 and 34 years old.

One explanation for the increase in the number of cases is more frequent but also more targeted screening. Contrary to popular belief, sexually transmitted infections are often asymptomatic. Hence the importance of getting tested regularly. Especially since chlamydia is recognized as a major cause of infertility in women. Another reason for this increase is the less frequent use of protection during sex, and an increase in the number of sexual partners.
