Jonathan Drouin marque son premier but avec l’Avalanche du Colorado

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Quebec forward Jonathan Drouin opened his account with the Colorado Avalanche on Monday, scoring his first goal of the season in a 4-1 win over the Seattle Kraken.

Ironically, it was Nathan MacKinnon, with whom he had played together for the Halifax Mooseheads, who set up Drouin’s first goal with the Denver team.

With a score of 3-1, MacKinnon and Drouin came in two-on-one, and number 27 beat Joey Daccord with a shot in the upper part of the net.

The last time the two friends had combined for a goal was in the Memorial Cup final won by Halifax in May 2013.

Until then, Drouin had two assists in his first eleven games with the Avalanche.

After conceding the first goal, scored by Brandon Tanev in his return to the game after more than a month’s absence, Colorado (9-5-0) found its rhythm in the second period.

Jared Bednar’s team thus put an end to a two-game losing streak in regulation time.

Tanev thought he had helped Alex Wennberg give the Kraken (5-8-3) a 2-0 lead while shorthanded at the end of the first period, but a challenge from the Avalanche determined that Kraken’s number 13 had obstructed Alexandar Georgiev.

It was the wake-up call the visitors needed, as they then besieged Daccord’s net, while the Seattle skaters completely lost their early-game rhythm.

Mikko Rantanen – scorer of his tenth goal of the season – Ross Colton, Cale Makar, and Valeri Nichushkin also got on the scoresheet.

Rantanen now has 21 points to his name (10-11) in just 14 games.

Georgiev faced 20 shots in the victory.
