The CAC 40 index finished at 7,364.11 points. On Monday, the Paris stock exchange had ended down 0.72%.

“Today’s market is down but not in a tailspin,” comments Lucas Excoffier, head of continental brokerage at Oddo BHF.

“Uncertainties about the timing of central bank interest rate cuts are the main theme of the session,” continues the trader.

“Investors were hoping to see these initial cuts in the spring, and these expectations are being called into question as central bankers speak out,” Lucas Excoffier explains.

Investors turned their attention to a late afternoon speech by a governor of the US Federal Reserve (Fed), Christopher Waller.

He indicated that there was “no reason to be as hasty with rate cuts as in the past” and that this would only happen if “inflation does not rebound.”

On the bond market, the French ten-year government bond was at 2.75% compared to 2.73% at the closing on Monday.

Vivendi fell 0.90% to 9.87 euros.
