La Transat Jacques-Vabre perturbée par des conditions météorologiques difficiles

Let’s go! The departure was given for the Ultim, Ocean Fifty, and Class40 participating in the 16th edition of the Transat Jacques-Vabre on Sunday, October 29, shortly after 1 p.m., off the coast of Le Havre (Seine-Maritime). The Imoca boats, however, remained at the dock, as the organization of the race was disrupted by difficult weather conditions expected in the middle of the week in the Atlantic. “A breakdown in this system, with a boat that would no longer be maneuverable… There is no possible escape” explained Francis Le Goff, race director. The Ocean Fifty and Class40 will have to make a stopover. The 55 boats participating in these classes will have to make a stopover in Lorient (Morbihan) at the beginning of the week to seek shelter, before setting off again once the storm has passed. “The start of this second stage will be given as a fleet and the ranking established at the arrival in Martinique will be the sum of the times of the two stages” explained Francis Le Goff, race director.

Delayed departure for the Imoca boats. “We did not have the capacity to offer this format with a stopover to the Imoca class due to space limitations in the port” specified Francis Le Goff. The departure for these boats has therefore been postponed to a later date, which has not yet been announced by the organizers.

The Ultim boats will continue their race without interruption. The five maxi-trimarans scheduled on the starting line, faster than the rest of the fleet, are able to escape from the English Channel and the Bay of Biscay before the storm hits the area from Wednesday onwards, explained the organizers.
