La trigonelline : un alcaloïde végétal aux avantages cognitifs chez la souris

La trigonelline (TG), a plant alkaloid found in coffee,

as well as in fenugreek seeds (a plant and spice) and radishes, offers cognitive benefits. The study reveals its effects on memory and spatial learning, from both a cognitive and molecular perspective, in mice.

The study: experiments conducted on animals reveal that:

  • oral administration of TG to mice for 30 days allows for a significant improvement in spatial learning and memory, as evaluated by the water maze test;
  • the signaling pathways related to the development of the nervous system, mitochondrial function, ATP synthesis, inflammation, autophagy, and neurotransmitter release are significantly modulated in the intervention group, as observed through whole-genome transcriptomic analysis of the hippocampus;
  • TG suppresses neuroinflammation by negatively regulating activation mediated by a pro-inflammatory signaling factor;
  • inflammatory cytokine levels TNF-α and IL-6 are significantly decreased, as revealed by quantitative protein analysis;
  • dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin neurotransmitter levels are significantly increased in the hippocampus.

Taken together, these results, which need to be validated in humans, suggest the effectiveness of TG in preventing and reducing age-related cognitive decline and the potential benefits of supplementation.
