WhatsApp is constantly seeking to improve. Here’s the recap of the upcoming December updates. On the agenda: the concealment of locked conversations, updating the status of our contacts, and associating an email address with a WhatsApp account.
Concealing locked conversations
Locking conversations is already a possibility on WhatsApp. But if you have a few too curious people in your entourage, this could lead to some questions. And the developers have understood this well. According to WABetaInfo, a camouflage feature is expected to arrive soon on the application.
Basically, a user will only have to go to the settings of their locked conversations and select the option to hide them. From there, the service generates a secret code that will then need to be entered in the search bar of the “Chats” tab to find the conversation.
Updating the status in conversations
WhatsApp is a Meta-branded messaging service and it shows. The application regularly imports features from other platforms in the group, and this time it’s Instagram’s turn. Just like on the social network, WhatsApp users will soon be able to access the status of their interlocutor directly from their conversation.
Similar to Instagram, it’s the addition of a status ring that allows users to identify it. The green ring, of course, indicates that the person you are speaking with has simply changed their status. Not really revolutionary, this update still has the merit of further improving the user experience, notably by avoiding juggling between different tabs.
Associating an email address with a WhatsApp account
Security and privacy are WhatsApp’s two main concerns. The messaging service once again proves this with a new feature that enhances user account access. In short, the application aims to offer the possibility for everyone to associate an email address with their WhatsApp account.
According to WABetaInfo, the update introduces a new section in the application’s settings. This should simply be titled “Email Address.” The feature opens a welcome new access route, as users can log in even if they don’t have access to their phone number. Note that the default method remains sending a 6-digit code via SMS. If you want to change the method to require an email address, you will need to do so manually.
