EDMONTON, Alb. – Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins were the only goal scorers in the shootout, and the Edmonton Oilers narrowly defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 on Tuesday.

The Oilers collected two points in the standings despite a moment of uncertainty in the final minutes of the game.

Two Knights support players opened their account in the last seven minutes of the third period to tie the game at Rogers Place.

Ben Hutton and Keegan Kolesar, the latter at 17:52, both beat Stuart Skinner to tie the score at 4-4 when the Albertans thought they were in control.

In addition to scoring against Logan Thompson as the first shooter for his team in the shootout, McDavid also got three points (1-2) in regulation time.

Sam Gagner, Mattias Janmark and Evander Kane also found the back of the net for Edmonton (8-12-1), which continues to climb in the rankings with a third consecutive win.

Vegas (14-5-4) was also losing its second consecutive game in overtime, after a 2-1 loss in overtime in Calgary the previous day.

Mark Stone and Michael Amadio also got the better of Skinner, who faced 27 shots, seven less than Thompson.
