Montevidéo : le nouveau roman d’Enrique Vila-Matas

From one book to another, Enrique Vila-Matas invariably devotes himself to the same main theme: the figure of the writer writing and reading, reading and writing. His new novel, Montevidéo is no exception, featuring a fictional double whose biography closely resembles his own. True to his method, he celebrates literature in his own playful and joyful way, without sacralizing it, as the best way to approach it seriously is to do so without too much seriousness. If he likes to fill his pages with borrowings or quotes slipped into the text without warning, the countless quotes presented as such are willingly tampered with. So much so that one can only be certain of the authenticity of the quotes attributed to imaginary writers.
