“Rekordmeister” of victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with 19 crowns, six more than the runner-up, Audi, and nine more than the third most successful manufacturer on the Sarthe circuit, Ferrari, Porsche has just unveiled a very exclusive edition of the 911 Carrera GTS, called the Le Mans Centenary Edition. Paying tribute to the “centenary race”, held in early June, this limited edition was designed by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur in collaboration with the ACO, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest. It will be produced in only 72 copies (a nod to the brand’s first participation, 72 years earlier, in the most prestigious endurance race), all reserved for the French market.
The German firm explains that this 911 Carrera GTS Le Mans Centenary Edition is inspired by the brand’s iconic models that took part in the Le Mans 24-hour race, the Porsche 356 SL and 911 GT1. Its designers also explain that it is equipped with 25 specially developed elements, including the badges that adorn the engine ventilation grille, hand-milled, or in the cockpit, the logo of the 24 Hours embossed on the headrests and the circuit layout benefiting from the same treatment on the central armrest. Porsche finally indicates that each customer will receive a special key case, as well as a specific interior cover and a personal booklet, a sort of “diary” recounting the life of their sports car, from its conception at the Zuffenhausen factory to its personalized session in the workshops of the Exclusive Manufaktur department. For reference, the 911 Carrera GTS has a 480 hp flat-six engine and offers the choice between a 7-speed manual gearbox and an 8-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox.
