Dans quelques heures seulement, Apple organisera son deuxième événement de l’automne et le troisième de l’année, baptisé « Scary Fast » et apparemment axé sur le Mac. L’annonce nous a pris au dépourvu puisque nous avions entendu dire qu’il n’y aurait pas d’événement en octobre cette année, et quelque chose dans tout cela semblait bizarre. Apple organiserait cet événement pour renouveler l’intérêt pour le Mac avant les fêtes de fin d’année. Pourtant, il semble que cet événement « Scary Fast » pourrait avoir l’effet inverse.
Le temps
Au cours de nos années consacrées à Apple, nous ne nous souvenons pas d’un autre événement délibérément prévu pour la soirée. Bien sûr, il y a eu des salons professionnels à Paris ou à Tokyo qui ont obligé Apple à organiser des keynotes à des heures inhabituelles, mais celui-ci est entièrement sous le contrôle d’Apple. L’événement aura lieu à 17h00 (heure du Pacifique) ou à 20h00 sur la côte Est. C’est très tard pour un événement basé aux États-Unis, surtout s’il s’agit de diffuser une vidéo préenregistrée. Ayez également une pensée pour le reste du monde, le Royaume-Uni devant assister à l’événement à minuit.
Le timing pourrait être dû à Halloween et au fait qu’Apple se penche simplement sur le côté « effrayant » des choses (la société a envoyé des colis de soins remplis de bonbons et d’AirPods Max aux influenceurs). Ou cela pourrait être un moyen d’enterrer une mauvaise nouvelle. Même avec une entreprise comme Apple, un événement à 20 heures HE bénéficiera de beaucoup moins de couverture médiatique qu’un événement à 13 heures de l’après-midi. Apple pourrait donc essayer de limiter son exposition ici.
Les rumeurs
Depuis des mois, nous apprenions qu’Apple n’organiserait pas de deuxième événement d’automne cette année. Et les rumeurs l’ont confirmé : oui, un processeur M3 était en préparation, mais les nouveaux produits étaient en grande partie les mêmes que les modèles M2, mais plus rapides. Et c’est toujours le cas. Les derniers rapports indiquent qu’Apple dévoilera lundi un nouvel iMac et des MacBook Pro 14 pouces et 16 pouces avec une puce plus rapide et pas grand-chose d’autre : pas d’Air, pas d’AirPod, pas d’iPad, rien.
Une puce mise à jour légèrement plus rapide que la génération précédente, une luminosité supplémentaire sur l’écran et peut-être le Wi-Fi 7 sont-ils suffisants pour organiser un événement ? L’iMac, qui n’a pas été mis à jour depuis avril 2021, ne devrait même pas recevoir de nouvelles couleurs. Alors Apple peut-il vraiment retenir notre attention pendant environ une heure avec une puce légèrement plus rapide et beaucoup de Johny Srouji ?
La puce
Enfin, il y a le processeur M3 lui-même. Nous avions de grands espoirs pour le M3 lorsque nous avons entendu pour la première fois qu’une nouvelle puce Mac 3 nm était en développement. Maintenant, nous n’en sommes pas si sûrs. Après que l’A17 Pro ait apporté des gains très modestes par rapport à l’A16 Bionic et aux rumeurs, nous nous attendons à ce que le M3 apporte des gains de vitesse similaires à ceux du M2, environ 15 %. C’est bien, mais ce n’est pas non plus digne d’un événement.
Les M3 Pro et M3 Max peuvent apporter des gains plus importants, notamment en termes de graphismes, mais nous ne sommes pas si optimistes, d’autant plus que les trois puces feront leurs débuts en même temps. Si le M3 représentait un grand pas en avant, Apple serait heureux de le laisser seul, mais il semblerait être éclipsé par des puces plus rapides, qui ne sont peut-être pas si rapides elles-mêmes. Les rumeurs disent que les M3 Pro et M3 Max auront des améliorations de base et de vitesse similaires à celles du M2, ce qui pourrait constituer un événement très intéressant.
