– Stricker jouera son 2e Grand Chelem
Dominic Stricker a gagné le droit de découvrir le tableau principal de Wimbledon. Le Bernois de 20 ans, 117e joueur mondial, a battu l’Italien Mattia Bellucci (ATP 160, 22 ans) en quatre sets au 3e tour des qualifications pour le Grand Chelem londonien (6-3 1-6 6-3 6-4).
Ce ne sera que la deuxième fois dans la carrière du Suisse qu’il participera à un Grand Chelem. La première et dernière fois, c’était à Roland-Garros – un tournoi qu’il avait remporté chez les juniors en 2020 – il y a quelques semaines. Le natif de Münsingen s’était alors incliné au 1er tour face à l’Américain Tommy Paul.
A l’aise sur l’herbe, le Suisse a donc enchainé, après avoir battu l’Américain Steve Johnson et l’Argentin Juan Pablo Ficovich, à chaque fois en deux sets. Son affrontement face à Bellucci, en cinq manches, ne l’a pas du tout déstabilisé, même s’il a connu un passage à vide lors de la deuxième manche, où il a perdu cinq jeux consécutifs.
