Gaël Monfils congratulated his wife Elina Svitolina for defeating Victoria Azarenka in the first round of the Washington DC Open by kissing her. The moment took place in a tunnel at the tournament complex.
After the kiss, Gaël headed to the court where he was scheduled to play against Bjorn Fratangelo. Like his wife, Monfils won in two sets.

Svitolina also met Monfils after her match and repeated the kiss.
Monfils is proud of Svitolina’s journey at Wimbledon
“I am proud of my wife, to be honest, for all the work she has done to reach this level.
She showed great discipline. I was amazed by her mental strength, in some matches, to turn them around and come back for the next match – I was proud and inspired. That’s why I feel like a champion right now,” said Monfils to Tennis Majors. In three months, little Skai will celebrate her first birthday.
So far, Monfils and Svitolina have managed their parenting duties well. This week, Monfils is participating in the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) in Los Angeles and Svitolina will spend more time with Skai: “She’s doing well, she’s growing up really fast, actually.
We’re at home, but it’s also a privilege to spend quality time at home with our child. It’s never enough. We’ll have to spend a few weeks without her and it’ll be hard, but I feel like we’ll have more time in a few weeks.
This has been an extraordinary month for me, I’ve seen my wife accomplish great things, and I’ve spent time with my daughter. So I’m full of energy and really looking forward to performing well during this tour,” said Monfils.
