Un chauffeur de VTC mis en examen pour homicide volontaire suite à la mort d’un supporter à Nantes

DAMIEN MEYER / AFP Supporter killed in Nantes: VTC driver indicted for murder (Photo of Nantes supporters on September 23, 2023) INVESTIGATION – Two VTC drivers were indicted on Monday, December 4, including one for voluntary manslaughter, two days after the death of a FC Nantes supporter stabbed on Saturday on the sidelines of the Ligue 1 match against Nice. One of the two men, in custody since Sunday morning, was indicted for voluntary manslaughter and armed robbery, announced Monday evening the prosecutor of Nantes, Renaud Gaudeul. He was incarcerated “pending the debate” on the provisional detention requested by the public prosecutor’s office, the man having requested a delay. A second VTC driver was indicted and placed under judicial supervision for voluntary violence at the scene of the brawl and for tampering with evidence, according to the prosecutor. Knife attack “in self-defense” Shortly before 8 p.m. on Saturday night, “at least six vehicles” transporting Nice supporters from the city center to the Beaujoire stadium had been targeted “by a significant number of FC Nantes supporters,” the prosecutor explained at a press conference on Monday afternoon. The way in which the Nice supporters were identified is still unknown. The first driver admitted during his custody to have struck the victim with a knife, in self-defense according to him. He claims to have acted with a weapon belonging to a supporter present at the scene. The autopsy of the 31-year-old victim revealed two injuries “compatible with the use of a bladed weapon,” one at shoulder level, the other on the chest, the prosecutor said. The supporter died on the scene of the attack despite the arrival of the emergency services. Erased recording A video recording of the scene shows the perpetrator “struggling with several Nantes supporters” with a weapon in his hand, the prosecutor said. “He pushes an individual who falls to the ground and stabs him. The supporter gets up, tries to flee, and is then stabbed a second time,” he detailed. On returning his three passengers to their hotel after the incident, the 35-year-old man allegedly demanded “several hundred euros” to compensate for the damage to his vehicle. “Fearing for their lives,” the supporters complied and withdrew “a sum of around 1,000 euros,” he continued. The criminal record of the accused includes “four mentions,” notably for drug trafficking, the prosecutor said. The second driver, initially heard as a witness, was placed in custody after investigators discovered that the video recording his vehicle was equipped with had been erased. However, a memory card containing the recording was found at his home. This “gives a fairly precise description of the scene” and “shows that blows were struck” by this driver, “apparently with a telescopic baton,” Renaud Gaudeul explained. Prohibited perimeter The prosecutor also requested the opening of an investigation for aggravated violence and destruction, particularly of vehicles, regarding the Nantes supporters present at the scene. Last week, the prefect of Loire-Atlantique had issued a decree regulating the circulation of Nice supporters in Nantes. “The avenue where the brawl took place is within the prohibition zone,” according to the prefecture. On Monday morning, Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, on France Inter, suggested that it was preferable to “focus on the movements of supporters” in the event of a high-risk match, a proposal supported by the head of the Professional Football League (LFP). FC Nantes and the Sports Minister had expressed their “grief” on Sunday and offered their condolences to the family of the deceased supporter, as did the Professional Football League (LFP). In Nantes, members of the Brigade Loire, of which the victim was a member, painted a mural on Sunday “Max forever” near the scene of the tragedy in memory of their comrade.
