Une employée de l’État condamnée pour des retenues illégales sur salaire

Madalena* had devised a formidable scheme. Based on a list of people pursued because they owed money, a young state employee set up requisitions for wage garnishments based on false pretenses.

She passed off her sister as a supposed creditor while pocketing the money in her own bank account. Seven people thus suffered abusive wage garnishments. The corrupt employee of the Department of Prosecutions thus pocketed a total of 14,933 francs. The State of Vaud, through the Judicial Order, discovered the affair and filed a complaint.

The investigation showed that Madalena’s sister was unaware of the defendant’s actions. The seven aggrieved debtors were fully reimbursed. The defendant was found guilty of qualified breach of trust and forgery in public office. This young Portuguese woman was sentenced to 150 day-fines at 30 francs with a two-year suspended sentence. The penal order does not specify whether the employment relationship between the employee and her employer, the Canton, has been terminated.
