Wout van Aert : Repos avant le stage en Espagne

Third in the Coxyde cyclocross, Wout van Aert is going to take a little rest before joining his team for a training camp in Spain.

The Antwerp native, like the others, couldn’t do anything in the face of the outrageous domination of the Dutchman Mathieu Van der Poel, winner of his 9th race in nine starts on Thursday at the Coast. “I didn’t try to follow him, consciously, commented Wout van Aert in a statement from his team Visma-Louer un vélo. At the beginning, I unclipped and had to sprint to come back properly. I mainly tried to ride at my own pace. I had better legs and it was really nice to have done this cyclocross.”

Wout van Aert will end his training camp in Spain with a single return to cyclocross, in Benidorm, for the penultimate round of the World Cup on January 21st. “I worked on the basics, but with little intensity, until this complete block of cyclocross where it was necessary to put in that intensity. Now, it’s important to go back to basics. It’s only in the spring with the classics on the road that we will find intensity. It’s a different approach from my previous seasons, but I have confidence. We know that my main goals are in the spring.”

The future will tell the Belgian whether he was right or not.
